Breakfast Buffet at Compass, Yokohama Bay Sheraton
Translated from my original Japanese post (2022). 日本語の原文を読む →
It's Yoko, the hotel-living gourmet hunter, @foodie_yoko! I live in hotels and eat out 365 days a year.
I stayed at Yokohama Bay Sheraton Hotel & Towers and had the hotel breakfast!
To reach Platinum Elite status with Marriott Bonvoy, I'm doing a "status run" of 15 single nights at Marriott Bonvoy hotels, and I chose Yokohama Bay Sheraton for one of them.
For the room at Yokohama Bay Sheraton, read this post:
Breakfast at Compass, Yokohama Bay Sheraton
Breakfast at Yokohama Bay Sheraton is served in a restaurant called Compass.
I also had dinner here on the night I checked in, and I'll say this up front: I really don't recommend buffets on back-to-back days, lol
Honestly, I was so full in the morning that I could barely eat anything.
People with the self-control to eat just the right amount for their appetite will be fine, but for someone who loves eating like me, not being able to try everything that catches my eye is stressful, lol
So if you're the same type as me, it might be best to stay two nights if you can and space the buffets out, lol

Compass is spacious, with semicircular sofa seats, and easy to use.
It has a relaxed, family-restaurant feel, in a good way.

The buffet station with fruit: pineapple, orange, grapefruit, kiwi, and, unusually, lychee. For yogurt, there's Danone BIO blueberry and others.

Bread pudding, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, mashed potatoes, and more.
Scrambled eggs, sausage, and bacon are almost guaranteed at big hotels, but I've seen them so often that I skip them nearly every time, lol

Chikuzen-ni (simmered chicken and vegetables), miso soup made with Kanejo miso, dried horse mackerel from Yokosuka, and rice blended with Shonan-grown Harumi rice.
Compass takes pride in using local ingredients.

The salad corner: cherry tomatoes, mixed leaves, cucumber, daikon radish, cauliflower, and more.
Fresh vegetables from "Yokohama Farm" are on display.

There's quite a variety of bread! Croissants, fruit Danish, Japanese-style sandwich loaf, raisin bread, round rolls, and more.

For coffee, there's an EGRO machine that makes cappuccino, café latte, and café au lait. It can also make a double espresso. Like the drip pods in the room, it's a UCC machine.

I piled up a bit of everything! It's a lot fewer items than usual.

The mains: omurice (omelet rice) with demi-glace sauce, and dried horse mackerel!
The egg on the omurice was cooked perfectly, fluffy and runny!

The dried mackerel was firm, moist, and rich with fat, and really delicious!

Sadly the bread pudding ended up sitting right next to the chikuzen-ni... please pretend you didn't see that, lol
There were little extras too, like natto (fermented soybeans), mozuku seaweed, tomato yogurt, and whipped butter, and they were all good.

The bread and tomato yogurt in particular felt like a spot-on selection.
I love tomatoes, so I'd love for other hotels to serve tomato yogurt too, lol
Who Yokohama Bay Sheraton Is Good For
Yokohama Bay Sheraton is right in front of Yokohama Station, so it's great for a stay before or after taking the Shinkansen, and since the food is good, it's also a good pick for foodies!
The all-day dining restaurant Compass stays open through the day and always has a buffet running.
You can enjoy it without staying at the hotel too, so if you're curious, why not give it a try?
