JR-East Hotel Mets Akihabara: A Stay Review
Translated from my original Japanese post (2022). 日本語の原文を読む →
Salut! It's Yoko, the hotel-dwelling gourmet hunter. I'm currently wandering around Akihabara.
Today I'm introducing a hotel I stayed at recently and which has become one of my favorites, JR-East Hotel Mets Akihabara.

Getting to JR-East Hotel Mets Akihabara
It's directly connected to Akihabara Station, so the hotel is right there when you arrive.
You can go up the stairs from what looks like the plaza in front of Akihabara Station, or take the elevator from the passage under the tracks. There's also a convenience store on the 1st floor.

The Lobby of JR-East Hotel Mets Akihabara
The lobby is on the 2nd floor. Besides a sofa area, there's a coffee corner that guests can enjoy for free, an amenity bar, and at the back the restaurant "Japan Kitchen AKIBA."

By the way, there are Akihabara-style design touches throughout, like the art displayed at the entrance to the passage connected to the station and the pattern of lined-up numbers inside the hotel!

Station Side Superior Double Room
At JR-East Hotel Mets Akihabara this time I chose a "Station Side" room, meaning the station-facing side! Because it's right next to the station, the windows are tinted so you can't see out.
When you enter the room, a table, kettle, glasses, a refrigerator and so on are arranged along the wall immediately on your right.

By the way, this is the third JR-East Hotel Mets I've stayed at, after Yokohama and Sakuragicho, and the refrigerators are all godly silent. Haier fridges are sometimes so loud I can't sleep and I have to unplug them, so it's nice not to have to worry about that.

The slippers are made of sturdy mesh fabric and are very comfortable to wear. They're the same type as at Dormy Inn. The desk drawer holds a phone charging cable and a cool foldable desk light that's handy for working. The desk is pretty narrow for the size of the room, about the amount of space you'd get at an APA Hotel.

There are outlets and USB ports on both sides of the bed.

The lights on the headboard are also Matrix-like(?), another design nodding to the Akihabara electronics district. They're block-shaped so they blend into the wall design, which is fun. Both have adjustable brightness. The TV is at the foot of the bed.

The washbasin is, wow, Villeroy & Boch, and the toilet is TOTO, so you can tell quite a bit of money went into it. The screen curtain is down, but even when you raise it the glass is tinted and you can't see outside.

The air conditioner is a smallish Ionity. One size bigger would be appreciated by those of us with long hair.

The bathroom has a separate washing area, strong water pressure, and a tub big enough to stretch your legs out in. Perfect.
There's a screen curtain here too, but even when raised, the double-glazed window, easily 10 cm thick, plus the tint completely blocks outside noise and gives you privacy.
By the way, how about the "station side is noisy" theory I was worried about?
Outside, it's literally right next to the building and the Akihabara Station platforms, but I only heard train departure sounds faintly while I was in the bath, so inside the room it was quiet!

Facilities at JR-East Hotel Mets Akihabara
Coin Laundry
There's a coin laundry, and you can even check its availability on the TV. More hotels have been doing this lately, but there are still few where you can. It's convenient because you don't end up in a scramble for the laundry machines.

Summary: JR-East Hotel Mets Akihabara
Things that bothered me
The soundproofing of the door is a bit weak, so you can hear conversations in the hallway clearly. It depends on the floor and the people, so there's a lot of luck involved, but it gets pretty noisy when the cleaning staff are working, so be careful if that bothers you.
Things I liked
I like that the amenity bar in the lobby has bath salts. The bath is truly on par with a high-end rental apartment, so you can use it comfortably. Free coffee every day is nice too. The room also comes with two bottles of mineral water.
Also, it seems that showing your card key gets you various discounts at atré 2.

There's also a service where the front desk staff deliver restaurant dishes to your room.
(You need to buy a meal ticket at the front desk.)

If you don't mind a bit of noise, and you want a clean hotel close to the station for a little bit of work, then JR-East Hotel Mets Akihabara is pretty much a sure choice.
If you're looking for a hotel around Akihabara Station, please give it a try!
