Moxy Tokyo Kinshicho: A Stay Review
Translated from my original Japanese post (2022). 日本語の原文を読む →
Hi, it's Yoko (@foodie_yoko), the gourmet hunter who lives in hotels! I live in hotels and eat out 365 days a year.
For the first stop of my Marriott Platinum Elite status run, I went to Moxy Tokyo Kinshicho.
Moxy is the casual, quirky brand among the Marriott hotels in Tokyo.
Moxy Tokyo Kinshicho opened on November 1, 2017, so it is still a fairly new hotel.

Kinshicho ranks 17th worst in Tokyo for crime by neighborhood, so it is not the safest area.
The location of Moxy Tokyo Kinshicho is a little unnerving too, lol.

It took about seven minutes on foot from Kinshicho Station. There's a convenience store next door, which is handy.

Moxy is known for this pink and gray color scheme.
You enter through an automatic door decorated with sexy lips, and then it's time to check in!

I got a welcome drink. The selection of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks is impressive, and there are even cocktails, so choosing is fun! And soft drinks are free for the whole stay.

The front desk and the bar counter are one and the same. They had earplugs out, but I brought my own, so I didn't take any.
Facilities at Moxy Tokyo Kinshicho
While waiting for my welcome drink, I wandered around the lobby.

A huge piece of art hangs on the wall, like a painting of Tomoe Shinohara's fashion from her heyday.
There's a pool table too.

There's a foosball table. Around the front desk there were also lots of games like Whac-A-Mole, UNO and Famicom consoles.
But I was staying solo, so I didn't touch any of them. Lol.
If I come again, I'd like to have a party with a big group...!

A meeting space where you could hold a serious meeting.

Self-service lockers with dial locks, in three sizes: large, medium and small.

The gym in the basement. Because of COVID, it was fully reservation-based with set time slots.

There's a coin laundry too, with separate washers and dryers.

The laundry price is the same as a business hotel, ¥300 per load. No detergent is needed.
I wonder if Moxy is the only Marriott hotel where you can use a coin laundry?
If you want to do a Platinum run in Tokyo as cheaply as possible, staying several nights in a row at Moxy Tokyo Kinshicho is one option. In that case, being able to use the coin laundry is a pretty big point.

Now, off to the room.
The room at Moxy Tokyo Kinshicho

The corridor is simple like this. It feels a bit like a school.

I stayed in room 907.

It's a room with a card key slot.

Since I'm a Marriott Gold member, I was upgraded to a twin.

On the wall opposite the beds, all sorts of items are hanging.

There are a variety of stylish frames.

The hanger, table, chair and luggage rack are all hanging up.
The hangers aside, the table, chair and luggage rack are fairly heavy, so be careful not to hurt yourself when you take them down.

A cute Do Not Disturb card was hanging here too.

On the bedside table were a push-button phone made to look like a rotary phone, disinfecting wipes, mineral water, and for some reason an Otamatone. Lol.

A welcome card was on the bed.
The purple-pink lettering is cute. The pen in the room is purple-pink too, so you can't use it for anything serious. Lol.

The loungewear is a one-piece style.

The bathroom has only a shower room, with no bathtub.
It's neatly put together in a white, gray and pink theme.

The hair dryer is a Vidal Sassoon VSD1212. It's a cute pink and has plenty of power.

There were plenty of towels. They're thick and fluffy!

The trash can is a steel-can-like one with sorting. The chair seems to be steel too. It looks cool!
An industrial feel runs through the whole room!

For Wi-Fi, you just choose the network name and follow the on-screen instructions to connect, with no password to enter, which is easy.

If I had to name one flaw about the room, there is no refrigerator.
If you ask the front desk, they give you lots of ice.
At first I didn't know there was no fridge, and I'd bought yogurt, so I kept it cold with ice. Lol. It was winter, so it barely worked out, but if you stay in summer, be careful!
And Moxy, I'd really like you to put in a fridge eventually! Lol.

For dinner I ate a JAL cup noodle that I'd been given, "Ramen Desukai."

The naruto fish cake design is a little airplane, which is cute. Lol.
Breakfast at Moxy Tokyo Kinshicho
Morning came.

The view from the window looks like this. The next building is a bit away, so plenty of light comes in.
Young people hung out outside until late at night and it was noisy, so if that bothers you, I recommend earplugs (you can get them at the front desk).

In the lobby, a bear was lying there looking still sleepy, as if it had pulled an all-nighter?!

I had to check out early, so I decided to just have a drink as breakfast.

I took a seat where I could drink coffee right next to the flashy art.

I went with a cappuccino. It warms you up.

Drinks can be taken to go, too. I asked for a second cappuccino and checked out!
Who Moxy Tokyo Kinshicho is for
Moxy Tokyo Kinshicho is recommended for couples in their 20s or small groups of friends sightseeing!
Given the location, it's a young person's neighborhood rather than a family one, and with Moxy's design concept I think the target is people from their 20s to early 30s.
The edgy design is unlike most other hotels, so if you want a hotel stay with a slightly different vibe, do go and see it!
