Hiyori Chapter Kyoto, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel: A Stay Review

Translated from my original Japanese post (2022). 日本語の原文を読む →

* It seems that on October 31, 2022, Hiyori Chapter Kyoto, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel will be sold by its current owner to another party.
I don't know whether it will stay in Marriott Bonvoy or be rebranded, so the services may differ from when I stayed. Please keep that in mind as you read!

It's Yoko, the hotel-living gourmet hunter, @foodie_yoko! I live in hotels and eat out 365 days a year.

For stay number 2 of my Marriott Platinum status run, I came to Hiyori Chapter Kyoto, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel in Kyoto.

First of all, this hotel has a long name!

To this day, I can only remember up to "Hiyori," lol

Location of Hiyori Chapter Kyoto, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel

341 Shimizu-cho, Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto 604-0911
075-221-3220

It's a 4-minute walk from Kyoto Shiyakusho-mae Station.

The hotel entrance is set back a little and blends nicely into the streetscape. It's also close to Sanjo and Karasuma Oike, so the location is convenient.

Inside the hotel, the front desk, restaurant, and lobby lounge are all on the first floor!

A long table sits in the center.

In the back is a restaurant and café space where breakfast is served.

By the way, you can read the breakfast post here:

This is the Chapter Factory, a distinctive corner of the lobby.

On the wall, it's packed with Kyoto recommendations from guests who have stayed at Hiyori!
These are called "Palm-Sized Notes" (tenohira ippitsusen), and they're filled with tips on recommended spots, restaurants, and more that someone left behind.

You can freely take any note that catches your eye, which is handy for sightseeing.

And if you'd like to make your own original note, there's a corner where you can make one right there.

On top of that, the Chapter Factory has a concierge on standby at all times to advise you on sightseeing! There's also an album packed with recommended spots, so even if you come to Kyoto with no sightseeing plan, no problem! lol

I took photos of a few notes that caught my eye and took a little break with a Nespresso.

Now I'll pick up my key card at the front desk and head to the room!

Room at Hiyori Chapter Kyoto, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel

The hallway on the fifth floor. It has an elegant purple carpet.

I step into the room I was assigned, 530.

The Do Not Disturb card hung on the inside of the door says "Dreaming big dreams." It's a simple design, but the English is cute.

The room is functional, with an outside-the-bathroom vanity style.
The sink is in the middle of the room and also serves as a partition between the bathroom area and the bedroom.

The counter drawer holds cups and glasses. The kettle was a Balmuda.

A Balmuda electric kettle has a narrow spout, which is great for making coffee.

Below the drawer is the fridge, a quiet type that lets you sleep soundly.

The sink. The hand soap and other toiletries were from millennium organics.

The bath has no tub, only a shower booth. The shower has three spray types.

The toilet is, of course, separate. It's a tankless one with a clean washlet.

An interesting item was a Panasonic garment steamer!
It's handy if your good clothes get wrinkled when you pack them.

The TV is big and looks great for watching movies.

There's also an air purifier.

There's a sofa next to the bed. By the way, this room has hardwood and tatami flooring, so you can go barefoot, which makes you feel as relaxed as in your own room.

The light next to the sofa looks like a modern andon (paper lantern), which adds a Kyoto mood.

By the way, the window is frosted glass, so there's no view.

There were sanitizing wipes on the table.

The loungewear is a navy two-piece set. I love that just one button is red! There was also a mesh bag for taking to the large bath.

Large Bath at Hiyori Chapter Kyoto, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel

That's right, Hiyori Chapter Kyoto, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, has a large public bath in addition to a gym that's open 24 hours!

It's easy, too: you can walk to the large bath in your loungewear. And geta (wooden sandals) instead of slippers really lifts the mood!

The hair dryer in the large bath was a ReFa, no less.

And the amenities are OSAJI. Wonderful.
I love the scent so much, and I think it's a brand Japan should be proud of.

The screen in front of the lockers looked like a folding screen and was adorable!
The large bath isn't that big, but even without a tub in the room you can stretch out here, so it's no problem at all.

Who Hiyori Chapter Kyoto, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel Is Good For

The best selling point of Hiyori Chapter Kyoto, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, is the "Chapter Factory" in the lobby.

You can pick up lots of recommended spots and restaurant tips from people who have visited Hiyori Chapter Kyoto, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, and you can consult the concierge too, which is very reassuring!

So it's a perfect hotel for couples and families visiting Kyoto for sightseeing!

Bonus

For those of you who've read this far, here's one restaurant I recommend too...

Diagonally across from Hiyori Chapter Kyoto, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, Hosen's "ebi-kashiwa soba" (shrimp and chicken noodles) and "shumai with water chestnuts" are insanely good!! Whether you're staying at Hiyori or just anywhere nearby, I absolutely want you to go. It's that good.

Please enjoy it together with a stay at Hiyori Chapter Kyoto, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel!
