*As of October 31, 2022, Hiyori Chapter Kyoto, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel is set to be sold by its current owner. I don't know whether it will remain with Marriott Bonvoy or be rebranded, but the services may differ from when I stayed, so please keep that in mind as you read!
It's Yoko, a gourmet hunter who lives in hotels. @foodie_yoko I live in hotels and eat out 365 days a year.
Breakfast at Hiyori Chapter Kyoto, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel
Breakfast at Hiyori Chapter Kyoto, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel is served here, at "CHAPTER THE GRILL."
My article about the room is here ↓

The restaurant has a relaxed, cafe-like mood.
It's all-day dining, so you can use it for lunch, dinner and drinks at the bar too!

The rice bowls stacked on the shelf as small plates had a Japanese-modern design that I thought was adorable.

I grabbed a seat and headed to the buffet. Green leaf lettuce, cherry tomatoes, purple cabbage marinade, carrot rapée, cheese, prosciutto and more.

Fried gugi (a Kyoto name for tilefish) and croque monsieur. Aluminum trays were set out so you can warm them up again.
Being able to re-bake fried food yourself feels kind of new...

This is the ochazuke (rice with tea) corner.
It's probably the star dish of breakfast at Hiyori.
Pickles, sakura denbu (sweet pink fish flakes), shredded egg crepe, shiitake, nori, green onion, sesame, black shichimi pepper and more.
You can make your own ochazuke with whatever toppings you like!!

There are plenty of teas to choose from, and they even set out an hourglass.

So I took a little of each thing that caught my eye.
Croque monsieur, fried gugi, corn soup with cinnamon, and more. Ratatouille, ochazuke, simmered napa cabbage, salad, bread, butter and so on.

I loved that the cherry tomatoes were colorful, in red, yellow and green!
The Danish with sweet bean paste inside was produced by Matsuya
(a wagashi shop. The shop inside Hiyori hotel is now closed).

I added chicken to my ochazuke to make it more substantial. This bowl alone could pass for a small meal.

The fried gugi was especially delicious.

There was fruit compote for dessert too.

After the meal, the tea I chose after much deliberation: "Marabout" by Theodor (Théodor), a tea brand from Paris. It's rooibos-based with caramel and apple flavors.
Summary of breakfast at Hiyori Chapter Kyoto, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel
There aren't that many items, but the space is so comfortable! I recommend it if you want a leisurely breakfast with small portions.
There are other tasty places nearby, so why not use it as a base for a Kyoto food trip?
