Tatsu Sushi at Narita Airport Terminal 3

Salut! It's Yoko, the food blogger.

Last month I went on a trip to Australia, and on the night I left I stopped by a standing-style sushi shop called TATSU SUSHI, which I'm introducing here.

TATSU SUSHI (Narita Airport Terminal 3)

I'd been curious about TATSU SUSHI because a foodie friend who loves traveling abroad had been recommending it for a while.

My departure was from Terminal 2, but I went out of my way to get off at Terminal 3 just to eat dinner lol

The shuttle bus to Narita Airport was 30 minutes late because of a traffic accident, so I didn't have much time...!

I dashed into Terminal 3 and into the food court.

I found TATSU SUSHI! I slid right in.

The sushi at TATSU SUSHI is Edomae sushi.
Edomae sushi began as a street-stall dish eaten standing up, and the stylish thing was to pay quickly and leave as soon as you were full.

So I had to eat quickly like a true Edokko (Tokyo native) and go check in!

With my big suitcase at my feet and one eye on the clock, I ordered several pieces, including kinmedai (golden eye snapper) and chutoro (medium fatty tuna).

First, chutoro and hirame (flounder).

The sushi rice was made with red vinegar.

Red vinegar (akazu) is a traditional vinegar made by aging sake lees for a long time. It has a flavor like Shaoxing wine, and I personally prefer it to rice vinegar.

Kinmedai.
The pieces of fish are big and very satisfying.

Aji (horse mackerel). I love silver-skinned fish.

The sanma (Pacific saury) is topped with pounded liver. It's already sanma season again this year...

Ikura (salmon roe), which I always order if it's on the menu.

Some pieces still had a little sinew, and a few had a slight refrigerator smell,

but the toppings are generous, the rice is red vinegar and the sanma has liver on it, so I think the quality is plenty good for a quick bite before leaving Japan.

Oolong tea comes in a plastic bottle, so if you're in a rush and have some left, you can take it with you, which is great.

There were also packs of sushi for people who want to take it away.

Since the sea is connected all over the world, taking seafood out of the country is basically fine in most countries!

It's raw and has moisture, so I think you'd need to pack it with an ice pack in your checked luggage, but it might be worth a try lol

The food court has other genres besides TATSU SUSHI, like a burger shop and a teppanyaki place, so it's good for anyone who gets hungry before a flight or arrives at Terminal 2 too early!

See you next time. Au revoir!
