Mucho Modern Mexicano: A Sunny Lunch in Tokyo
Translated from my original Japanese post (2020). 日本語の原文を読む →
Salut! It's Yoko, your food blogger.
Today I had lunch at a place called MUCHO MODERN MEXICANO!
Mucho Modern Mexicano
Mucho Modern Mexicano is on the 2nd floor of the Tokyo Building TOKIA, a short walk from Tokyo Station.
Take the escalator outside up into the building, turn right, and you're there.

A staff member was right at the entrance and showed us to a table straight away.
Inside, the ceiling is really high!
It's a big building, but maybe each floor is just built extra tall?

Lots of delicate lights hang from the ceiling, which gives it the feel of a party venue.
Best of all, the windows are huge, so it's incredibly bright!
Even though you're indoors, it feels open, like sitting on a terrace.
The half-circle sofa seats are cute, too.

The tables are a little close together, but the place was buzzing with people, and so far I had nothing but a good feeling about it.
We were seated at a table toward the back and checked the menu right away.
Mucho Modern Mexicano's Lunch Menu
The lunch menu comes with illustrations.
That makes it so much easier to picture the dishes.

The menu has a lot of variety, centered on classic Mexican dishes like fajitas and enchiladas.

So hard to choose!
We somehow picked our dishes and waited about 5 minutes.
Then the food arrived.
The place was nearly full, and I was grateful it came so fast!
First, the soup: a tomato soup with cilantro, potatoes, onions and more.

Then the drink. I went with passion fruit juice.

The standard lunch drink in Japan is usually iced or hot coffee or tea,
but at Mucho Modern Mexicano you can choose unusual juices like this. Love it.
My coworker's chicken over rice.

The colors of the plate and the toppings are so pretty!
The weekly special, chipotle jambalaya

A hearty portion. It comes on an iron plate, so it stays warm while you eat, which is great.
What I ordered this time: the three-taco plate.

You get three different flavors: a Mexican spicy chicken taco, a white fish fritter taco with tartar sauce, and a slow-braised beef taco.
The tortillas that wrap the fillings come as soft shell and hard shell, spicy and plain,
so you get all kinds of textures and flavors in one go. Very satisfying!
It's a 12-minute walk from Hibiya Station and just a few minutes from Tokyo Station, a great location, and it's spacious enough that you won't be kept waiting. It felt like I'd finally found a good place again.
The tangy, spicy flavors whet the appetite, the sofa seats were cute, and the space feels open. I'll definitely be back.
On days when you want a little pick-me-up, or you'd love to have lunch out for a change of pace but the weather is iffy, this place is highly recommended. If you're nearby, do give it a try.
