Bareburger, Jiyugaoka: A Huge Menu and a Great Terrace
Translated from my original Japanese post (2019). 日本語の原文を読む →
Salut! It's Yoko, the gourmet hunter!
On a recent day off I had lunch at "Bareburger," an organic gourmet burger restaurant from New York, in Jiyugaoka!
- Want a place with vegetarian and vegan options?
- Want a beer at lunchtime?
- Want to have lunch on a terrace?
This is a lunch spot I'd recommend for all of those!
Bareburger's Selling Points: A Huge Menu and Organic Ingredients
Bareburger is very particular about its ingredients, like free-range, grass-fed beef, buns with no preservatives and pesticide-free vegetables,
and in New York it seems to be well loved as a gourmet burger place that's good for you and tastes great.
In Japan it partners with Tomorrowland and opened in Jiyugaoka in 2015 and Ginza in 2016.
There are veggie patties too, so vegetarians and vegans are covered,
and the menu is full of variety, with draft beer, organic wine, and the milkshakes that are popular in New York!
A Hidden Lunch Gem in Jiyugaoka

Bareburger is at the back of the building where James Perse is.
Jiyugaoka is very crowded on weekends, and finding a lunch spot is a struggle every time,
but Bareburger is a little way from the station and has lots of seats!
And it's open straight through from 11:00 to 21:00,
so I'd highly recommend it if you're a lunch refugee in Jiyugaoka.
A Terrace, Perfect for a Date
In front of the building that houses Bareburger there's a courtyard-like space with terrace seating.
It's lively with couples and families.

If a guy brought a girl here on a date, she'd definitely be thrilled.
On a sunny day like this, eating on the terrace must feel amazing!!
Unfortunately it was busy this time, so we waited a while.
There was a menu outside, so I waited while agonizing over which burger to get.

After a few minutes our name was called and we went up to the second floor!

The animal illustrations and hanging lights are so stylish.

There's a good selection of alcohol too, like beer and cocktails.
To start, I ordered iced tea and homemade lemonade.
The glasses are designed to highlight the grass-fed beef.
Even the syrup is organic. They don't miss a trick.

For burgers I chose the County Fair with avocado topping, and the Back Wild!
By the way, the first drink that came out and the fries next to the burger are actually a set you can add to a burger, and it's only ¥300.

It feels cheap, maybe because the burgers themselves aren't cheap lol
The County Fair is a brioche bun stuffed with fresh vegetables, and it stands about 15 cm tall lol

There was a paper bag on the table, so I tried putting the burger in it, just in case.

But, wow, this is big... There's no way to eat it in one bite.
In the end I couldn't bear to squash the bun, so I cut it up with a knife and fork. lol

It uses aged cheddar, a cheddar that's aged even longer, and with every bite the cheese gives off its distinctive aroma (in a good way).

The patty is fluffy and juicy. There's red left in the center, so it's quite rare.
This is the Back Wild.

This one has onion rings in it, so it's nicely savory!

And the cheese works really well here too.
Style-wise it's close to Freshness Burger, but with three times the volume.
Personally, what stuck with me was the taste of the vegetables and the distinctive cheese rather than the flavor of the meat.
The burgers are quite hard to eat, so if you go on a date, ladies, watch your lipstick!
They have a BLT and waffles too, so if you're worried about your makeup, those might be better lol
So that was my report on Bareburger.
It's not just for dates. Pets and kids are welcome, so it's also good for a lunch with other moms.
You can also reserve online and collect points (Japanese T-Points).
If you're planning lunch in Jiyugaoka on a weekend, please give it a try!
See you next time. Au revoir!
