Breakfast at The Ritz-Carlton, Okinawa
Translated from my original Japanese post (2022). 日本語の原文を読む →
Hi, it's Yoko (@foodie_yoko), the gourmet hunter who lives in hotels! I live in hotels and eat out 365 days a year.
For summer vacation I stayed two nights at The Ritz-Carlton, Okinawa! In this post I'll introduce the breakfast at The Ritz-Carlton, Okinawa.
GUSUKU, the breakfast venue at The Ritz-Carlton, Okinawa

The breakfast venue was a restaurant called GUSUKU (which means "castle" in the Ryukyuan language).

Hand sanitizer and gloves are required.

The restaurant has a high ceiling shaped like a triangular roof, and plenty of outside light comes in.

I'll introduce the Japanese food corner as far as I remember! Here there were salted salmon, shikuwasa (Okinawan citrus) mentaiko, miso soup and rice.

Mozuku (seaweed) in vinegar, dashimaki tamago (rolled omelet), kinpira gobo (braised burdock) and simmered kabocha.

Tofu champuru (stir-fried tofu) and abura-miso (oil miso).

Simmered dried daikon, edamame chiki-age (fried fish cake), spinach with sesame dressing, purple sweet potato tempura, Okinawan tofu, and onsen egg in dashi. The dishes they're served in are stylish.

Next, the drinks! Shikuwasa juice, detox water and hibiscus water.
I drink a lot of water in the morning, so I was happy to have detox water and flavored water available ^^

Water, milk and mango juice. The mango juice comes in a bottle, which feels luxurious!

Next, the bread. There was a wide variety of sweet breads!
Muffins, bagels, pain au chocolat, sandwich bread and bran bread.

Purple sweet potato anpan (sweet bean bun), fruit Danish, sausage Danish and butter croissants.

Raisin roll crystal (what a fancy name, lol), caramel banana macadamia nut bread, cream bread and purple sweet potato anpan.

There was a proper toaster too! And lots of jam! Butter, tankan (Okinawan citrus) jam, peanut butter, shikuwasa jam, purple sweet potato jam, honey, apricot jam and strawberry jam.

Next, the fruit. Kiwi, pineapple, oranges, ruby grapefruit and bananas.
Seeing this fruit, I thought, just what you'd expect from The Ritz-Carlton...
Usually kiwis, oranges and grapefruit are just cut in half or into wedges, at best with a cut between the flesh and the peel, but all of the fruit had the peel neatly removed so you could eat it as is...! They put a lot of effort into the prep.

Cornflakes and other cereals, and homemade yogurt. Doesn't homemade yogurt feel like the live cultures are more active, somehow nicer? Lol.

Pancakes, and sata andagi, an Okinawan sweet.

There were all kinds of sauces for the pancakes: whipped cream, maple syrup, honey, custard cream, raspberry sauce, chocolate sauce and blueberry sauce. The dried fruit and nuts were apricot, raisins, pineapple, hazelnuts and almonds. You could decorate them quite lavishly.

Western hot dishes. Scrambled eggs, bacon, herb sausage and hash browns.

There was an omelet station too.

Minestrone, cacciatore (stewed chicken) and kabocha.

Mortadella, smoked salmon and Gruyere cheese.

Salad (cabbage, cherry tomatoes, cucumber) and mixed lettuce.

Carrots, beans (chickpeas and others) and daikon.

And a classic Okinawan dish to finish with: Okinawa soba!

So here's what I put on my plate!

My seat had a view of the courtyard.

Here's the Japanese food. The juushii (Okinawan seasoned rice) was lighter, with less meat than the one I had at the teppanyaki restaurant. I was happy to be able to eat classic Okinawan dishes like champuru!

The side dishes are so colorful! The dashimaki tamago was elegant and delicious!

The Okinawa soba even came with a proper lid, which sets the mood.

For the salads, I took extra of my favorite cherry tomatoes.

Warm Western side dishes.

Grape bread and purple sweet potato bread. There were many tempting breads, but I wasn't hungry after the previous day's teppanyaki, so I couldn't try many. So disappointing!

Fruit, yogurt and fresh orange juice.

Mango juice too. The glass for the detox water was cute!
And with that, I was very full...!
Who The Ritz-Carlton, Okinawa is for
The breakfast at GUSUKU at The Ritz-Carlton, Okinawa was especially impressive for its bread! Even compared with the breakfasts at other hotels, I think it has quite a wide variety. The fresh orange juice and other drinks were good too. And the fruit was carefully peeled.
So if you prefer bread for breakfast, I think it will suit your taste.
Besides GUSUKU, The Ritz-Carlton, Okinawa has the Italian restaurant "Churanuuji," the teppanyaki restaurant "Kise," "The Lobby Lounge" for afternoon tea and "The Library" for light meals, so use them to suit your appetite and the occasion!
