Breakfast at Viron Shibuya

Translated from my original Japanese post (2018). 日本語の原文を読む →

Salut! It's Yoko, a food blogger with a France obsession.

I usually keep breakfast simple, but I heard you can get a lovely breakfast at VIRON Shibuya, so I went!

VIRON is a bakery famous among baguette lovers for its hugely popular baguettes.

It's about a 10-minute walk from Shibuya Station.

VIRON's Breakfast Set Is Incredible Value

During breakfast hours (9:00 to 11:00), when you can eat breakfast at VIRON, there's a sign at the entrance.

"Petit dejeuner" on the sign is French for breakfast.

The first floor is lined with all kinds of tempting bread, but walk past it and go up to the second floor.

The second floor is a restaurant where you can enjoy a French atmosphere and take your time over breakfast.

Even if you oversleep a little, you can still order as long as you make it up the stairs by 11:00!

The breakfast is made up of bread, jam and honey, and coffee or tea.

You get two slices each of the "Cereale," with its grainy texture, and the classic, popular "Baguette Retrodor," plus your choice of two sweet pastries.

When you sit down, the jam set comes out first.

Ta-da!!

There are eight kinds of spreads: raspberry, blackcurrant, rhubarb, marmalade, apricot, peach, milk paste and apple honey!! And of course you can use as much as you like.

Then a staff member brings out the sweet pastries, and you pick two of your favorites.

I chose an apple turnover and a pain au chocolat. Both are huge!

Here's everything together.

I had tea, but if you choose coffee, refills are free! The "coffee every morning" crowd will love that...

It was my first time trying milk paste, and I was amazed by its richness. I worry about getting fat with butter, but this feels safe.

For the jams, I recommend the sweet-tart, refreshing blackcurrant and rhubarb!

You Can Take Your Bread Home!

Any bread you can't finish, you can take home! The baguette and Cereale were surprisingly filling, so I took two pieces home too.

They pack it neatly in a paper bag and a plastic bag!
I took home the chausson aux pommes (apple turnover) and the pain au chocolat.

The pain au chocolat is crisp! It has bittersweet chocolate inside and is delicious warmed up a little too!

The chausson aux pommes (apple turnover) is impressively thick, too.

It's packed with silky, cinnamon-spiced apple, and it's superb!

And this VIRON breakfast is only ¥1,500, by the way...

If you're in Shibuya on a trip, you could bring it back to your hotel and enjoy it for breakfast the next day or the day after, couldn't you?!

Buying bread normally costs a fair amount too, so it's a real luxury...

One more thing I shouldn't forget: VIRON isn't only for breakfast. It also runs as a restaurant at night.

VIRON at night is even more recommended!

In an atmosphere more French than France, you can enjoy fantastic French food.

It's stylish and popular with women, and I think it's great for travelers too, so please go!
